Plenty to say.

09/07/2010

Inspiration:

I have been looking at a website called “TED” recently and I really suggest that everyone who reads this takes a look. It is filled to the brim with inspiring, interesting and very factual videos about everything and anything, from art & design to politics to social, moral and environmental issues.

One recent video I viewed was from a conference in which Jane Mcgonigal spoke on how; “Gaming can make a better world” In this video Jane discusses the ways in which she feels games could be designed to influence people to do better things in real life.

I felt I would give this a mention as it inspired me greatly, it also got me thinking a lot about how this could work, I spent about half an hour discussing new ideas that she could use with a friend and I ended up with something I feel could possibly work in the future.

I demand you to watch this video, it is highly interesting and has some astounding facts and figures behind it.

My Projects:

As part of my summer holiday off college, I have to do college work (oh the poor poor irony). This consists of coming up with an idea for what my graphic design brief will be, this is the main project which takes me throughout the year. Also I have to start work on researching and writing my essay.

I would like to do the essay base on propaganda, most likely based around a question such as: “Looking at the moral, social and political issues the artist or designer face when producing propaganda” Due to this, I believe I will do my main project based somewhere around or within World War 2, where some of the most famous propaganda appears. This will link it all together nicely and hopefully keep it interesting throughout, stay tuned for more updates as to exactly what my brief will be.

Collaboration:

As you may, or may not, be aware – Myself and 2 friends have decided to start a collaborative photography blog called “Frozen Reflex” clicking the link will take you straight to it and inside you will find weekly themes, challenges, reviews and trips we take, all photography based. Please take a look, comment, subscribe to future posts and enjoy.

Lake District, Collaboration & Long Time No See!

28/06/2010

Hi guys, It’s been a while since my last post, a scary while at that! But I’m here now.

First up: Two Weeks ago me and 2 friends travelled up north to experience some of the scenery and mountain walks of the Lake District. I had been there before, but only as a youngster, but wow, was I blown away by the sheer beauty of the place.

Plenty to see, explore and photograph. However, despite it being a prime photography location, i spent more time looking and less time snapping, I’m afraid to say.

From getting lost in the mountains on the first night to nearly dying climbing the old man of Coniston (mountain) it certainly was an adventure and home just doesn’t seem the same since.

Here are a few pictures I got from the trip:

Magical Mountains -

Ghost Town -

What’s That -

Fox Gloves –

Old Man’s Lake -

One more small thing to post this time. Me and the people I went Lake District with have created a collaboration blog for our photography visit <Frozen Reflex> to see it in it’s glory!

A Secret Pond!

29/04/2010

Today I took a trip over a pond near my college that nobody seems to know about and quite rightly too, as it is in the strangest area you could find. Anyway, I took my new photography bag, my new wide angle lens (although I only used it for the bluebells picture) and took some shots.

Here are a few of the pictures I managed to get, I am very pleased with their quality.

Sunshine Photography!

Howdy all!

I was fed up of being indoors during the lovely, bright, warm weather today, so decided to take the old Nikon over the local fields.

I explored further than usual and walked a fair distance, but not in vain.

Here are the 2 main pictures I took that I am happy with, below them is a composition of four photos that I felt worked nicely together:

More Vector Work 2!

16/04/2010

Hi guys, it does seem to be the “in thing” for me at the moment. Simply because I enjoy taking my photographs and creating simplistic vectorised versions of them. So here is yet another vector, this time of my “Lonely Boat” image.

A day to Explore!

21/03/2010

Well.. my plans to visit and infiltrate Harold Wood Hospital for a second time went down the drain today.  Arrived with Antonia and Reiss and walked down the (apparently) private road. Met a couple of interesting people in a van, had a chat with them about other asylums, it turns out they look at explorers photos online for abandoned buildings, then go and buy the stuff from them when they get demolished.

While talking along came a security vehicle, a man with a German Shepard and another security guard from inside. Security was certainly upped since the last time I came.

We continued walking around the complex, until the women in the security vehicle suggested we moved on and then followed us out of the area to make sure we did. Not a wise choice to enter.

With Harold Wood scrapped we went to Thorndon country park; climbed a few trees, took a few pictures and generally had a good time. Here are some of the photos I took:

New Modules! Photography! Updates!

19/03/2010

Ok guys, I have now officially started the two brand new modules on my Graphics course. The first is the essay module in which I have to write a proposal and then a 3000 word essay on a subject of my choice (although one being relevant to what I haves studied) I have decided to study and write about – “ Has globalism taken over as the new colonialism, and has this had a negative effect upon the world’s developing countries?” – I think this will be of interest to me and due to this, i should be able to learn a lot more and write a better argument towards.

The second module is the “self authored brief” in which, as the name suggests, I have to write my own brief on anything I want (as long as I have a reason behind my choice).

I have chosen to do an information design piece which will inform people on the development of Heavy Metal from thee 1960′s to present day through the use of an animation. Supporting the animation will be a small book, with a poster design to promote and advertise the animation. I think it should be an interesting brief and may be calling upon you guys through the use of questionnaires and surveys.

This Sunday I am going to be exploring another abandoned building (well one that i have been to before) hopefully this time I don’t have to run from any guards… BUT exploration means… more photography, so I’m very pleased to be getting back out there.

And one last update, I eventually got my D&AD work submitted today, so that is all out of the way.
